The Jumbled Journal Christmas Episode
I was sitting here trying to think of a Christmas blog. I started with the idea of doing Christmas movies. Looking at a list of Christmas movies to try to get ideas going, I realized I haven’t seen nearly enough Christmas movies — let alone have a strong enough opinion on the ones I have seen. It just boiled down to Muppets Christmas Carol and A Charlie Brown Christmas at the top and everything else pales in comparison.
Then my wife had a stroke of genius… “Why don’t you rate the New Girl Christmas episodes?”. Incredible. Something I’m passionate about.
I’ve seen the show through a few times. There was a good year or two where it was the constant show on as background noise. Once it’d end, start it right back up at the pilot.
So that I’m not working off memory, I did a quick rewatch of the four Christmas episodes. We’ll be using the universally accepted Tran rating system. If you’re not familiar, the rating system is a simple 1-5 Tran scale. 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
The reviews are short cause it’s New Girl not Shakespeare.
The 23rd (S1E9)
This is quintessential New Girl. Nick being a dumbass. Jess not knowing how to talk to her boyfriend. Schmidt getting rejected by Cece. Winston being the weird guy talking to the only kid at the company Christmas party.
Rating:
Santa (S2E11)
Does Winston believe in Santa?
Nick has a stripper girlfriend he can’t handle and gives us the elite line of, “Turning lemonade into lemons since 1981.”
Rating:
LAXmas (S4E11)
This is one of the funniest but most frustrating New Girl episodes. I don’t remember liking it as much as I did.
It’s the only Christmas episode that features Coach. We have two creeps in airport lounges — pervert Santa and the dirty ole bitch.
A lot of crummy cliche airport tropes that make you laugh every time.
Rating:
Christmas Eve Eve (S6E10)
Not much substance here. Everyone overthinks secret Santa. Schmidt and Cece are married so no cringy courting or heartbreak.
